Celebrations of the Year of Anna Wazówna in Brodnica

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, a meeting of the team responsible for organizing the celebrations of the Year of Anna Wazówna was held at the Vocational Activity Team in Brodnica. The date of the meeting was not accidental, as it marked the 400th anniversary of the death of Anna Wazówna, the sister of King Sigismund III Vasa and the starost of Brodnica and Golub.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Brodnica City Hall, non-governmental organizations, school directors from the Brodnica district, and members of the Brodnica County Council. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss actions aimed at popularizing the figure of Princess Anna, both through existing events and new proposals that would increase interest in her legacy.

During the meeting, many interesting proposals were presented to enrich the celebrations of the Year of Anna Wazówna. It is worth recalling that at the end of last year, the Brodnica County Council announced 2025 as the Year of Anna Wazówna to commemorate the 400th anniversary of her death. Anna Wazówna was not only the sister of King Sigismund III Vasa but also held the position of starost of Brodnica and Golub. Her figure is strongly connected to the region, and her achievements contribute to the popularization of the Brodnica land, as evidenced by the mural depicting her in Brodnica.

The announcement of 2025 as the Year of Princess Anna Wazówna aims to remind people of this famous figure as well as promote the rich literary and cultural heritage of the Brodnica district and awaken interest in its history and legacy.
