30th Anniversary of the Home Hospice in Brodnica

For three decades, the team of the Home Hospice in Brodnica has been facing challenges that are hard to measure. Their empathy and dedication to their calling to help terminally ill patients, accompanying them and their families in the toughest moments, is invaluable.

On February 25, the team celebrated its 30th anniversary. The organizer of palliative care was Wera Pokojska, who received a warm welcome during the ceremony. In the early years of operation, the team included nurses: Elżbieta Boros, Halina Słembarska, Aleksandra Zięciak, Jolanta Badaczewska, and Jadwiga Zakrzewska, who has been the coordinator of the Home Hospice in Brodnica for many years.

Over 30 years, the Hospice has cared for 3,402 people, including 1,556 women and 1,827 men, as well as children. Statistics show that the most common causes of death in the Brodnica district are cancers of the chest and respiratory system.

The current hospice team consists of Elżbieta Boros, Jadwiga Zakrzewska, Wiesława Badaczewska, Jolanta Bylewska, Alina Jadanowska, Zofia Krotowska, Barbara Mroczek-Goerke, Halina Obijalska, and Maria Olszewska.

During the anniversary ceremony at the Palace of Anna Wazówna, coordinator Jadwiga Zakrzewska emphasized the challenges faced by the team, including the high average age of nurses. Starosta Paweł Szramka presented a commemorative plaque, and wishes were also expressed by parliamentarians and local government representatives.

The Home Hospice in Brodnica continues to support patients in the terminal phase of cancer and their loved ones, focusing on alleviating suffering and providing psychological, spiritual, and social support.
