Ceremonies in Brodnica

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at noon sharp, representatives of the county and city authorities gathered in front of the John Paul II monument in Brodnica to pay tribute to the Great Pope. Starosta Paweł Szramka, Deputy Starosta Arkadiusz Orłowski, and Chairman of the Brodnica County Council, Marek Hildebrandt, laid wreaths, expressing the respect and gratitude of the residents. Preschoolers from the "Misiaki" kindergarten also participated in the ceremony, adding an intergenerational dimension to the event.

The Legacy of the Pilgrim Pope

The pontificate of John Paul II, lasting 26 years, 5 months and 16 days, was one of the longest in the history of the Church. His election as Pope on October 16, 1978, was a breakthrough - the first Slavic Pope and the first from outside Italy in over four centuries. As the "Pilgrim Pope," he made 104 pilgrimages, reaching out to people around the world. His beatification and canonization, which took place shortly after his death, testify to his unique role and influence on the faithful.
