Inter-School Historical Contest about the Vasas

On April 16, 2025, the Inter-School Historical Contest "The Vasas on the Polish Throne" took place at the School Complex in Jabłonowo Pomorskie. The contest was organized under the honorary patronage of Senator of the Republic of Poland Ryszard Bober and Starosta of Brodnica Paweł Szramka.

The Year of Anna Vasa

This event was part of the Year of Anna Vasa in the Brodnica County, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the death of Princess Anna, the starosta of Brodnica, who was associated with the region.

Participants and the course of the contest

The contest was attended by students from grades 6-8 from many primary schools, including those from Biskupiec, Brodnica, Gruta, Jabłonowo Pomorskie, Książki, Łąkorz, Nieżywięć, Radzyń Chełmiński, Słup, and Świecie n/Osą. In the first part, participants individually answered questions about the history of Poland and Sweden during the Vasa era, the life and activities of Anna Vasa, and the political system of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. After a fierce competition, the winners were selected.

Team Competition

In the second part of the contest, teams solved a crossword puzzle about Anna Vasa, answered questions about a map of the Commonwealth in the 17th century, and analyzed the genealogical tree of the Jagiellons and the Vasas. The best teams were from the Primary School in Radzyń Chełmiński, and the third place was taken by teams from Gruta, Jabłonowo Pomorskie, Nieżywięć and Łąkorz.

Awards and thanks

The prizes were funded by Senator of the Republic of Poland Ryszard Bober, Starosta of Brodnica Paweł Szramka, Mayor of the City and Commune of Jabłonowo Pomorskie Marzanna Fettke, and the Parents' Council of the School Complex in Jabłonowo Pomorskie. The organizers thanked the participants for their participation and knowledge and congratulated the winners.
