May Holidays: An Overview of Events and Significance

The first decade of May is a time of important national holidays and anniversaries in Poland. Let's take a closer look at what we celebrate:

May 1st: International Workers' Day and Anniversary of Accession to the EU

We celebrate International Workers' Day, a public holiday since 1950, commemorating the strikes in Chicago in 1886 for an 8-hour workday. This year also marks the 21st anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union, which took place at midnight on May 1, 2004.

May 2nd: Polish Flag Day and Polish Diaspora Day

May 2nd is Polish Flag Day, established in 2004 to pay respect to the national symbol. On this day, we also celebrate Polish Diaspora Day.

May 3rd: National Holiday of May 3rd

The National Holiday of May 3rd commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of May 3, 1791, the first modern constitution in Europe and the second in the world. This year we celebrate the 234th anniversary of this event.

May 8th: National Victory Day

On May 8th, we celebrate National Victory Day, commemorating the end of World War II in Europe and the defeat of Nazi Germany.
