Drunk Driver Apprehended by Off-Duty Police Officer

An off-duty police officer from Brodnica showed exemplary conduct by apprehending an intoxicated woman who caused a collision in Lubawa. The 34-year-old had nearly 3.3 per mille of alcohol in her system.

Details of the Intervention

On Sunday, June 1, 2025, Senior Constable Szymon Petrykowski heard a crash on a street in Lubawa. It turned out that a Skoda driver had hit a road sign at a pedestrian crossing and a lamppost. The officer immediately reacted, preventing the woman from leaving the scene, turning off the engine, and taking the keys. He then notified the police in Iława.

Consequences and Further Actions

Police officers from Iława, who arrived at the scene, confirmed that the woman had nearly 3.3 per mille of alcohol in her blood. It was determined that the woman, while leaving the parking lot, hit a road sign and a lamppost. A children's day picnic was taking place nearby, so pedestrian traffic was increased. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Thanks to the quick reaction of the police officer, the perpetrator of the collision was apprehended and handed over to the local police. The woman faces up to 3 years in prison.
