Forest Inventory in Poland Has Begun!

On August 20, 2025, the Large-Area Forest Inventory began, covering the entire country, both state and private forests. The research will last from 2025 to 2029.

Inventory Goal

The purpose of this five-year inventory is to determine and monitor the condition of Polish forests and the changes taking place in them. The results will be used for statistical purposes, preparing national and international reports, populating the forest database, and formulating forest policy.

Scope of Work

Each year, 20% of the forest area will be studied. Measurements and observations are made on fixed sample plots in a 4x4 km grid. Field work is carried out by the Bureau of Forest Management and Geodesy with branches in Białystok, Brzeg, Gdynia, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Krakow, Lublin, Olsztyn, Poznań, Przemyśl, Radom, Szczecinek and Warsaw.

Important for Forest Owners

Employees of the Bureau of Forest Management and Geodesy will enter forest areas, including private ones. Their task is to establish sample plots and make measurements in accordance with the instruction approved by the Minister of Climate and Environment on June 3, 2025. Forest owners and managers are asked to allow these works to be carried out.
