Safety During Winter Holidays - Summary of the "Safe Winter 2025" Action

Introduction

In order to ensure the safety of children and youth during the winter holidays, police in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship organized a series of control and preventive actions.

Control Actions

Officers paid special attention to the observance of traffic regulations, such as:

• permitted speed
• use of mobile phones while driving
• usage of seat belts
• transporting children under appropriate conditions

As part of the control actions, 57 buses transporting children for winter holidays were checked. All vehicles were technically sound, except for one case where the driver did not have valid medical examinations. Another driver was sent to safely transport the children.

Preventive Actions

In parallel with the inspections, police conducted preventive actions by organizing meetings with children and youth. During the "Safe Winter" campaign, they discussed safety issues during winter holidays, teaching safe road crossing rules, especially in difficult weather conditions and at night. They also encouraged the use of reflective elements to increase visibility on the road.

Accident Statistics

During the winter holidays (January 17 - February 2, 2025), there were 27 traffic accidents reported in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, with no fatalities and 37 injuries. Police also recorded 860 road collisions.
