Commemorations in Brodnica marking the 86th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II

On September 1, 2025, on the 86th anniversary of the Nazi German attack on Poland, residents of Brodnica and the Brodnica district gathered in front of the Monument of Gratitude to commemorate the heroes and victims of World War II. At 12:00 noon, sirens wailed in Brodnica.

The ceremony, which took place at 3 Maja Street, was attended by banners, delegations of parliamentarians, soldiers of the 4th Brodnica Chemical Regiment, representatives of local government authorities, schools, institutions and social organizations, clergy, firefighters, police and numerous residents.

On behalf of the residents of the Brodnica District, starost Paweł Szramka, together with a delegation of the Brodnica District Starosty, laid flowers. Wreaths were also laid by Senator Ryszard Bober, MP Zbigniew Sosnowski, representatives of the city, army, clergy, police, fire brigade, schools, institutions and local organizations, including the "Sokół Brodnica" Gymnastics Society and the Brodnica Brobikers Motorcycle Association.

During the ceremony, the tragic events of September 1939 and the soldiers of the 67th Infantry Regiment, stationed in Brodnica before the war, were recalled. Mention was also made of the residents of Brodnica and the district who died on the fronts, in camps and prisons, and those deported to "inhuman land."

The ceremony was an opportunity for reflection on the fate of those who gave their lives for the Homeland.
